“The Summer Hikaru Died” Begins Streaming on Bilibili in China

The anime adaptation of Mokumokuren’s critically acclaimed manga The Summer Hikaru Died (Japanese: Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu) has officially launched on Bilibili in China as of July 29–30, 2025, following its global launch on Netflix and domestic release on Abema and Nippon TV.

🧠 Overview

This haunting coming‑of‑age horror series centres on Yoshiki Tsujinaka, a high school student whose best friend Hikaru Indō disappears during a mountain hike. Hikaru later returns—unchanged in appearance and voice—but sinister forces are soon revealed lurking beneath the surface.

As eerie events escalate in their rural village, Yoshiki confronts a chilling reality: the person beside him is not Hikaru anymore. The series explores grief, identity, and queer subtext through atmospheric storytelling and emotional depth.
