Naver Webtoon has officially cancelled the long-running and hugely popular manhwa Wind Breaker by creator Yongseok Jo. The decision follows widespread confirmation that multiple scenes exhibited striking similarities—almost identical—to other published works.
Who announced it?
-
Yongseok Jo released a heartfelt apology, admitting to using reference materials that crossed into plagiarism. He said he was overwhelmed by deadlines and regretted the decision to end the series abruptly despite wanting to finish the story.
-
Naver Webtoon confirmed the internal investigation’s findings and stated that “the manuscript … showed similarities in composition and structure to another work,” leading to the halt.
The Fallout
-
The series, running since December 2013 with over a decade of serialization and 26 volumes, boasted hundreds of millions of views—some sources report around 600 million.
-
Fans are upset by the sudden cancellation with little warning, and there's concern over whether ongoing English releases on LINE Webtoon will continue.
