“Black Lagoon” Manga to Resume Serialization on July 18
Following a lengthy hiatus, Rei Hiroe's acclaimed action-noir manga Black Lagoon is set to make its highly anticipated return. The next chapter will land in the August 2025 issue of Monthly Sunday Gene‑X, which hits shelves on July 18 in Japan. Not only does the chapter mark the series’ return, but it will also be highlighted with a full-colour opening spread and cover feature.
Visuals:
Since its launch in April 2002, Black Lagoon has been published irregularly—largely due to creator Hiroe’s struggles with depression. The manga recently released new chapters in May, August, and December 2024 before entering another pause.
The plot centres around Rokurō “Rock” Okajima, a salaryman turned mercenary in the criminal underworld of Southeast Asia, aboard the feared Lagoon Company. Accompanied by a band of morally complex mercenaries—like the tattooed Revy—the series is celebrated for its gritty gunfights and mature storytelling. Madhouse adapted the manga into two anime seasons (2006–2007) and the Roberta’s Blood Trail OVA (2010).
