A live-action film adaptation of WIND BREAKER, the hit manga by Satoru Nii, is officially coming to theatres in Japan this December. The announcement was made during the broadcast of the WIND BREAKER Season 2 anime. Alongside the reveal, a “super special video” and the teaser visual were released, building anticipation for the movie’s premiere.

The film is directed by Kentaro Hagiwara, known for his work on Tokyo Ghoul and Blue Period, with a screenplay by Yosuke Masaike (Anime Supremacy!) and Yoshitaka Kamo serving as producer. Distributed by Warner Bros. Japan, the production promises a bold and energetic adaptation that remains faithful to the source material while delivering high cinematic impact.

Filming for the live-action movie was conducted from February to April 2025, primarily on a large-scale set constructed in Okinawa. The team faithfully recreated the iconic “Tonpu Shopping District” as a life-sized open-air location, complete with shopfronts, banners, and residential alleyways. This effort was made possible with the cooperation of the local government and community, ensuring an immersive backdrop for the story’s explosive confrontations.

Story Arcs Being Adapted

The movie will cover:

  • Introduction Arc: Haruka Sakura transfers into Furin High and is introduced to the school’s role as a vigilante force protecting the town.

  • Shishitoren Arc: Tensions rise as the Bofurin group confronts the ruthless Shishitoren gang, sparking ideological and physical battles that define the series.
